A group of Woodford School Lusaka pupils have now returned from taking part in the World Scholar’s Cup Global Round which was held in the beautiful city of Barcelona, Spain from 22 to 27 July 2018.
We are pleased to inform you that six of our pupils represented not only the school but the nation at large at this huge global event. The Global Round had representation from over 57 countries with a total of over 2100 scholars present. Woodford School Lusaka was represented by Maurina Banda, Bwalya Mukupa and Chileleko Mudenda – all of Grade 5 Blue, as well as Mapalo Bweupe, Tehilla Phiri and Frank Tayali, all from Grade 6 Blue.
Our pupils performed exceptionally well and earned themselves 11 medals with each one of them getting at least a medal.
The 2018 World Scholars Cup Global Round was hosted by Spain in Barcelona from July 22 to 27. The Round attracted Three Hundred and sixteen (316) Schools from fifty seven (57) registered Countries with a population of Two Thousand (2000) Scholars. Zambia was represented by Rhodes Park School and Woodford School of Lusaka.
Countries that participated in the Global Round of World Scholars Cup hosted by Barcelona in Spain were Australia, Austria, Azerbaijan, Bahamas, Bahrain, Bosnia & Herzegovina, Bulgaria, Cambodia, Canada, China, Egypt, France, Greece, Hong Kong, Hungary, India, Indonesia, Israel, Japan, Jordan, Kazakhstan, Kenya, Korea, Kyrgyzstan, Macedonia, Malaysia, Maldives, Mauritius, Mexico, Moldova, Mozambique, Netherlands, New Zealand, Nigeria, Oman, Pakistan, Philippines, Qatar, Romania, Serbia, Singapore, Slovenia, South Africa, Spain, Switzerland, Taiwan, Tanzania, Thailand, Turkey, United Arab Emirates, Uganda, Ukraine, United Kingdom, United States Of America, Vietnam, Zambia and Zimbabwe. Among these, nine were African Countries.
During the competition, Scholars were examined in Collaborative writing, Social Studies, Literature, Science, Music and Art; as well as Debate, a component of the World Scholars Cup that aims at moulding and sharpening the Public Speaking Skills of the Scholars.
The Group concluded their time in Barcelona with a visit to the Camp Nou (Home of the Barcelona Football Club) where scholars walked in the steps of former and present football giants like Johan Cruyff, Xavi Hernandez, Frank Rijkaard, Samuel Eto’o and Carles Puyol, Lionel Messi, Andres Iniesta, Luis Suárez and Sergio Busquets.
