Tour Destination: Meteorological Department Headquarters-Lusaka

Tuesday 15 February 2022 was a blissful day for the students of Grade Six Blue and Grade Six Green. They were offered an opportunity to go and learn more about the weather patterns in Lusaka and Zambia at large. Mr. Mpatso and Miss. Chabala, who were the tour guides, welcomed the students warmly to the weather station and took extra time to explain and demonstrate how to measure the weather using different equipment.

Instruments such as the evaporating pan, Stevenson Screen, Anemometer, Wind Vane, Wet and Dry Bulb Thermometers and the Sunshine Recorder were some of the instruments used to demonstrate how to measure the atmospheric condition within a short period of time. It was interesting to see our able students participating actively in the lesson presentation. During the tour, the students were given the opportunity to demonstrate how to measure the amount of heat in the atmosphere using the Sunshine recorder.

Other students were tasked to distinguish between the Anemometer and the Wind Vane and demonstrate how each of the instruments are used. The responses from the students were splendid. It was an exciting moment for the students and we can safely report that the tour was interesting and the students acquired a lot of exciting knowledge from the tour guides.
