Our library has come alive with a new kind of magic, the magic of stories, imagination, and knowledge! This term, our school received an incredible 4,490 books from Books2Africa, sparking pure excitement among both learners and teachers. From the moment the boxes arrived, a sense of curiosity and anticipation filled the air. What new adventures lie hidden within those pages?
As the library doors opened to unveil the new collection, learners could hardly contain their joy. The shelves now boast a colourful array of books across all genres, from fascinating science and history titles to classic children’s literature, picture books, adventure tales, and inspiring biographies. There’s truly something for every young reader to fall in love with!
These books have not only enriched our main library but have also been thoughtfully extended to classroom libraries, allowing learners to access stories more freely during reading time. Teachers have eagerly incorporated the new titles into lessons, using them to spark discussions, strengthen comprehension, and enhance learners’ vocabulary. In English lessons, learners explore characters and themes; in Social Studies, they discover the broader world through informational texts; and during reading corners, they enjoy the joy of getting lost in a good book.
The excitement doesn’t end there; the number of books being borrowed each week has soared! Learners now walk into the library with eager smiles, searching for their next great read. The library has once again become the heart of our school.
This achievement would not have been possible without the unwavering support of the school management, whose dedication to literacy and lifelong learning continues to inspire both staff and learners. Their efforts in facilitating the partnership with Books2Africa have truly opened doors of imagination and knowledge for every Woodford learner.
As Joseph Musonda from Grade 3 Blue put it, “It feels like we’ve travelled the world without leaving our classroom!”
Indeed, with 4,490 new books, the adventure has only just begun, and at Woodford School Lusaka, every page turned is a step toward a brighter, more imaginative future.
