From Lusaka to Shanghai, our Woodford scholars stepped onto the global stage at the World Scholar’s Cup Global Round, competing alongside students from around the world in a series of challenging, fast-paced and engaging academic activities.

The Global Round put our learners to the test through debates, collaborative writing and the Scholar’s Challenge, giving them opportunities to think on their feet, work as a team and confidently share their ideas. Our teams performed particularly well in the debate rounds, with two teams winning two out of their three rounds.

Then came the medals, and there was plenty to celebrate. Every Woodford learner who participated earned at least one medal, with Chilufya Nonde and Tapelwa Mpundu among our top performers, each earning an impressive four medals. Their results also secured their qualification for the prestigious Tournament of Champions.

Special recognition also goes to our youngest scholars, Joseph Musonda and Eric Banda, who each earned two medals. Although they narrowly missed qualification for the Tournament of Champions because of the age eligibility requirement, their achievement is no small feat. Competing alongside older learners and holding their own on an international stage is something they can be proud of.

But the Global Round was about more than medals and results. In between the competition, our scholars had the chance to meet students from different countries, exchange ideas, build friendships and experience new perspectives. It was an opportunity to put their communication, collaboration and critical-thinking skills into practice in a truly international setting.

We are incredibly proud of all our scholars for the hard work, determination and confidence they brought to the Global Round and for the way they represented Woodford School Lusaka in Shanghai.

With the Tournament of Champions now on the horizon for our qualifiers, we look forward to seeing where this journey takes them next.
